Weekends are the Best

Finally caught up on blogging

90 °F

Today is Sunday. I was able to attend church where I play the organ for the meetings. It was so hot during my 7 minute walk there, that I was sweating by the time I walked in. The sun shines into the window where I sit to play so it made it worse. I’m whining…. I only had 3 minutes before the meeting started to figure out the music. The hymn numbers in the Spanish hymn books don’t coincide with the English version, so I don’t know the names of the songs, therefore it’s harder to figure out what the song is, and I’m not that good of player anyway. So I quickly figured out what they were and thank goodness, I could play 3/4. Called to Serve always is hard for me to play, but during the meeting I got thru it. I guess they are just happy to have someone play, no matter how bad they play!
To be honest, I left the last meeting cause I was so hot and was having guests for lunch. Mauro came after me and tried to get me to come back, but I didn’t.

I had a family I had met when I first came to Bolivia over for lunch. There were 6 children, a nephew, a darling baby, Julian, Carmen, and a grandma. Julian BBQ’ed yummy chicken wings, Carmen made Bolivian cheesy rice and I provided fresh green beans, tomatoes, leftover empanadas, cake, and fresh pineapple. Julian speaks English, and the kids speak very little, so it was fun to try and talk….as usual. We then went down to the big condominium pool and they swam. In 90 degree weather they were cold! I can’t believe it. LOL They caught taxis’ and went on home. Fun to be with this family.

Saturday I got up early to prep for the party at my house, then went and swam laps in the pool. After, Melissa and I tried to catch the same bus to go shopping at Al Basto, the huge market that has wonderful fresh produce and meat, (actually I wouldn’t buy the meat there as it is all out in the open). I missed the bus so ended up taking a taxi there. I got 5 pineapples for $1.50, green beans, tomatoes, apples, limes, to make a yummy limeade. And everything so cheap and fresh! I love that place. One of these days I will get some photos!

Later that
night I had an empanada party at my house. We made Argentinan ones that were baked in the oven instead of fried. Vivi, the tech teacher from school helped out. She brought the meat for some, and I got the ingredients for ham and Cheese, and apple ones. My maid made dough for us to use. We worked and worked in the hot kitchen for a couple of hours, but it was fun to visit while we worked.
We had a nice crowd come and then Vivi’s husband and Silvia, the music teacher from school, played the guitar and they and we sang songs.

I am so blessed to have wonderful friends here in Bolivia. So supportive and fun to be with. I couldn’t do it without friends here.
